4/3/84: Kong paces A's past Brew Crew, 11-4

Big night for Little Joe, Murph

Joe Morgan made his Oakland debut a successful one with 3 singles, 2 walks and 2 runs scored, while Dewayne Murphy rapped 3 singles of his own, scoring 2 runs as well. It was Kong who provided the big bat with his 2-run homer for the lead and 2-run double for icing on the cake in the 7th. The A's sent 10 to the plate in the 7th, scoring 6 times to put it out of reach.

The Inspector is on the case

Bill Caudill took over for Steve McCatty in the 7th with the A's clinging to a one-run lead with the bases full of Brewers and got Ted Simmons to foul out to 1st and Ben Oglivie out on strikes. Caudill ran into more trouble in the 8th and escaped, and pitched a 1-2-3 9th, striking out Oglivie again to end it.

Not Milwaukee's night

Despite leading at one point by a score of 4-3, the Brew Crew got 0-5 nights from Robin Yount, Ted Simmons and Ben Oglivie. Don Sutton pitched into the 7th before running out of gas. which he had little of in the 1st place, recording 0 strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
