4/4/84: Jays outslug Mariners, 9-7

 The ball was flying out of the Kingdome, with the Blue Jays going deep 4 times in a 9-7 victory over the Mariners in the Pacific NW. The balls started flying in the top of the 2nd with Toronto leading 1-0, Jesse Barfield and Ernie Whitt going back-to-back with solo homers to lead off the inning. Dave Henderson then homered with 1 on in the bottom of the 2nd, bringing the M's to within a run at 3-2.

After Ernie Whitt and Damaso Garcia doubled to extend the Jays lead to 4-2, Lloyd Moseby slugged a 2-run homer, extending the Jays' lead to 6-2. After Al Cowens reached on an error with 1 out in the bottom of the 4th, catcher Bob Kearney homered, cutting the M's lead to 6-4. The M's took the lead in the bottom of the 5th on a leadoff walk by Jack Perconte and 2-run homer by Barry Bonnell, his 3rd of 4 hits, tying the score. Pat Putnam singled with 1 out, advanced to 3rd on a single by Cowens, then scoring on Dave Henderson's RBI single giving the Mariners the lead.

Ernie Whitt led off the 6th with a single. was sac'd to 2nd by Alredo Griffin and scored on a double by Rance Mulliniks, tying the score at 7. With 2 out in the 7th and Paul Mirabella on the mound for Seattle, George Bell hit a solo homer giving the Jays the lead at 8-7. After a lead-off triple by Moseby and a pair of intentional walks in the top of the 9th, Jesse Barfield drove in Moseby with a sac fly to center. Reliever Roy Lee Jackson got Seattle out in the bottom of the 9th 1-2-3 to save the win for Dennis Lamp.
