4/6/84: Phils rally late, stun Reds in 11, 6-3
The Phillies rallied in the 9th to force extra innings and put it away with a 3-spot in the 11th to stun the Reds, 6-3. The Reds led 2-0 after 3 on back-to-back doubles in the 2nd by Dave Parker and Dan Driessen and on a 3rd inning single by Dave Concepion, who scored Gary Redus from 2nd.
Garry Maddox led off the Phils 4th with a solo homer off Reds starter Joe Price making the score 2-1, where it stood until the 9th. Price walked Maddox and Bo Diaz with 1 out in the 9th, thus forcing the Reds to bring in Ted Power. Ivan DeJesus hit a slow roller to 1st to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd. PH Tim Corcoran singled home the go-ahead runs with 2 outs giving the Phils a 3-2 lead.
Holland couldn't hold it
The Phils brought in ace reliever Al Holland to get the final 3 outs but only settled for 2 when PH Cesar Cedeno reached on a 2-out error by SS Ivan DeJesus. Dann Bilardello then singled Cedeno to 3rd, with Cedeno scoring on a double by PH Dave Van Gorder. Gary Redus struck out to force extra innings. After a scoreless 10th, the Phils took charge in the 11th off Tom Hume with a leadoff single/stolen base by Glenn Wilson. One out later, Bo Diaz brought in the go-ahead run on a double, then after a fly out by Ivan DeJesus, PH Len Matuszek put it away with a 2-run homer. Bill Campbell pitched a scoreless 11th for the save.
