4/7/84: Ramirez goes 4-5, Braves hang on to beat Expos, 5-4

Rafael Ramirez went 4-for-5 and scored the winning run as the Braves hung on for a 5-4 win over the Expos at Fulton County Stadium. Ramirez doubled in the 3rd, singled home a run in the 4th, doubled and scored on Gerald Perry's go-ahead RBI single in the 6th and singled again in the 8th. Keystone mate Glenn Hubbard also doubled twice and scored twice, while Bob Horner and starting pitcher Pete Falcone, each had 3 hits with Falcone himself driving in a run.

The Braves had 16 hits but stranded 13 while Montreal erased a 4-0 Braves lead via the longball in the 5th with Tim Wallach and starting pitcher David Palmer each slugging 2-run homers to tie the score. The Braves defense stymied Montreal with 2 line-drive double plays in the 6th and 7th, Gary Carter lining to Ramirez in the 6th and Bobby Ramos lining to Hubbard in the 7th after Atlanta assumed the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 6th.

Pete Falcone pitched into the 9th when Tim Raines led off with a walk and stole 2nd. After Andre Dawson bounced to Falcone for the first out, reliever Terry Forster came in for Falcone and retired Gary Carter on a foul out to Bruce Benedict and Tim Wallach grounded to 2nd to secure the Braves 3rd win in 4 games. David Palmer was charged with the loss for the Expos.
