4/8/84: Wohlford comes through in a pinch as Expos beat Braves in 10, 4-2
Jim Wohlford's 2-run pinch double in the 10th off Terry Forster gave the Expos a 4-2 extra inning win over the Braves in Atlanta. Gary Carter led off the inning with a lead-off single, then advanced to 3rd on Tim Wallach's double. PH Bobby Ramos then lined to short, followed by an infield-in slow roller by Derrell Thomas. Wohlford's pinch double brought in the runs, then Expo relief ace Jeff Reardon, save for a 2-out walk by Claudell Washington collected the save for Joe Hesketh.
The Expos forced extra innings with 1 out in the 9th when Pete Rose singled and was replaced by pinch-runner Tony Scott*. Bryan Little with his 2nd double of the game and 4th hit overall sent Scott home with a 1-17 chance to beat the throw home. The d-20 roll was a "16." Terry Forster then took over for starter Len Barker and got the final 2 outs of the inning. The Braves took the lead in the 7th off Charlie Lea on a lead-off double by Bob Horner, who scored on a single by Glenn Hubbard. The score was tied at 1 on solo homers by Gary Carter in the 2nd and Gerald Perry in the 4th.
