4/11/84: Brewers ride early homers, Moose Haas's 10 K's to an 8-2 triumph over the Angels
The Brewers left the ballpark early and often, while Moose Haas struck out 10 Halos in 7+ innings for an 8-2 triumph in front of a stunned crowd at the Big "A."
It all began in the top of the 1st when Randy Ready rushed a Ron Romanick fastball over the left field bleachers, followed shortly thereafter by a Cecil Cooper solo shot to right. Romanick gave up homers to 2 of the first 3 Brewers and would give up another in the 2nd when Jim Sundberg found the left field bleachers as well. While Romanick was giving them up, Moose Haas was dealing, striking out 5 in the first 3 innings including striking out the side in the 3rd. (Schofield, Pettis, Jackson)
Milwaukee added another run in the 4th on leadoff singles by Ben Oglivie and Jim Gantner. Charlie Moore scored Oglivie with a double, extending the lead to 4-0. Haas struck out Doug DeCinces and Fred Lynn in the 4th, giving him 7 strikeouts through 4. Dick Schofield became strikeout victim #8 in the 5th. Another Milwaukee run scored in the 6th when Randy Ready walked with the bases loaded, scoring Ben Oglivie for the 2nd time. Fred Lynn for the 3rd time and Brian Downing ran Haas's strikeout total to an even 10 in the 6th.
The Brewers really put it away with a 3-run 8th on a leadoff single by Jim Gantner and subsequent double by Jim Sundberg, his 3rd hit of the game. Randy Ready added the exclamation point with a 2-run triple, followed by a Robin Yount single. The Halos got their runs in the home half of the 8th on a leadoff single/stolen base by Gary Pettis and RBI single by Rod Carew. Reggie Jackson singled Carew to 3rd, chasing Haas, then Tom Tellmann served up a DP ball to Robin Yount, scoring Carew. The Brewers recorded their 5th win in 7 games behind a 15-hit attack, including 3 each by Jims Gantner and Sundberg and a 4 RBI night for Randy Ready. The Angels dropped to 2-6.
