The Cards struck 1st off Lollar on a 1st inning 1-out double by Tito Landrum, who scored one out later on a double by George Hendrick. Andujar then bunted The Wizard to 2nd, followed by a Lonnie Smith pop to short. Tito Landrum then hit a grounder past Lollar for a single, scoring Ozzie with the go-ahead run. After Tom Herr singled to left moving Landrum to 3rd, Dick Williams made the call for Goose Gossage, who got George Hendrick to fly to center. Gossage pitched a scoreless 9th, while Andujar pitched perfect scoreless ball in the 8th and 9th to finish the complete game masterpiece. The Cards improve their record to 4-3, while the Padres dropped their 4th in a row to fall to 2-5.
