4/12/84: A's silenced by Angels, Zahn, 6-2

The California Angels used strong pitching by Geoff Zahn and a 13-hit attack to silence the Oakland A's by a 6-2 final score. Zahn scattered 5 hits, 2 of which were solo homers by Dwayne Murphy and Dave Kingman and retired the last 10 A's batters.

The Halos got solo runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings off starter Mike Warren and got 2 insurance runs via a 9th inning homer by Rob Wilfong. Bob Boone led the Angel hit parade with 3 singles, while Gary Pettis, Fred Lynn, Brian Downing and Wilfong had 2 hits each.

Zahn struck out just 1 A's batter, but let his sinker do the talking, inducing 23 ground outs, while allowing just 2 fly ball outs as well as the 2 solo homers. The win ran the Angel record to 3-6, while the A's dropped their 2nd in a row to go 5-3.
