4/14/84: Lansford drives in 5 as A's demolish Angels, 10-1

Carney Lansford's 3-run homer in the bottom of the 1st got the A's rolling right off the bat, on his way to a 5-RBI Day in a 10-1 pasting of the Angels at the Coliseum.

Lansford also drove in solo runs with a double in the 2nd and a single in the 4th, giving him 5 for the day. Jim Essian took advantage of a rare start behind the plate, collecting a single, triple and a double. Lansford also sparkled with the glove, turning a Bobby Grich liner into a DP, doubling off Reggie Jackson.

The Angels could only muster 6 hits off A's starter Tim Conroy and Chris Codiroli, with 1 of the 6 hits being a solo homer by Doug DeCinces. Joe Morgan supplied the game's final outs by turning a DP off PH Rod Carew with 1 out in the 9th. Jim Slaton, Bruce Kison and John Curtis all pitched for the Angels with Slaton charged with the loss, allowing 4 runs in the 1st.
