4/8/14: New year, same "error" at the "Mistake"

It may have been a new season at the "Mistake" but one thing is for certain, it was the same old "error."

The Orioles spoiled the home debut of the Indians, who gave the crowd of 57,114 the same old Indian baseball by way of the butchered baseball, committing 3 errors in the first 4 innings:

-1st, Jim Dwyer safe on an error by Julio Franco SS

-2nd, Rick Dempsey safe on a 2-base messter-piece by Pat Tabler (1B) that scored Wayne Gross with the 1st Bird run.

-4th, Dwyer safe on a dribbled dribbler by Ron Hassey.

Usually sure-handed Cal Ripken Jr. even joined in on the fun with his own error in the Tribe 2nd and Eddie Murray ran the Orioles out of the 3rd inning with a 9-5 DP.

Mistakes aside, the Orioles hung on for an 8-5 win over the Tribe behind a 13-hit attack and late home runs from Rick Dempsey and Wayne Gross. Scott McGregor pitched 7 strong innings before running out of gas in the 8th, allowing Tippy Martinez to finish with the save.

Rick Sutcliffe's control betrayed him, walking 5 in 5+ IP, while Brett Butler's 2-run double in the 8th brought the Tribe within 2, before Gross's homer in the 9th off George Frazier put the game away, though Brook Jacoby's leadoff homer in the bottom half made the final more respectable.

But it's still the same old "error."
