4/14/84: Giants stun Dodgers, 6-4

"We were going to send many of you to Yankee Stadium for Tom Seaver's first regular season visit as the White Sox took on the Yankees, but Mother Nature had other plans, so we will send everyone to Dodger Stadium for the great rivalry matchup between the Giants and Dodgers following the pregame show."

"Tonight, Ann Jillian reappears as TV's most heavenly body. But when gamblers take over Jennifer's house, they may not stand a ghost of a chance! It's the return of Jennifer Slept here, after Diff'rent Strokes tonight."

"Hi, do you know me? I ran for President in 1972 and lost to some crook. Tonight, I'll host Saturday Night Live with musical guest Madness." "Excuse me, aren't you George Wallace?" (George McGovern was that night's host)

Gene Richards drove in 3 runs, including the go-ahead runs in the 5th on a bases-loaded single as the Giants stunned the Dodgers by a 6-4 final at Chavez Ravine. The Giants jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st behind back-to-back RBI doubles by Jack Clark and Jeffrey Leonard and an RBI single by Richards. The Dodgers got 2 of those runs back in the bottom half of the 1st on back-to-back homers by Terry Whitfield and Ken Landreaux. Doubles by Steve Yeager and Rafael Landestoy got the Dodgers even in the 2nd, but a double by Manny Trillo and 2 walks set up Richards' further heroics in the 5th giving the Giants a 5-3 lead and eventual win.
