4/15/84: ChiSox down Yankees, 6-3

The White Sox broke open a tight game with 3 runs in the 6th, while LaMarr Hoyt went the distance scattering 12 hits in a decisive 6-3 win over the Yankees in the Bronx.

The Sox did their damage with 2 outs in the 6th on 5 consecutive hits starting with a double by Vance Law. who scored on Marc Hill's RBI single. Hill advanced to 3rd on a double by Julio Cruz, then Rudy Law singled home Hill and Cruz for a 5-2 lead. Scott Fletcher singled for the 5th straight Sox hit of the inning, R. Law advancing to 3rd, but Harold Baines bounced out to Ron Guidry for the final out of the inning.

Baines was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI's, including an insurance homer off Yankee RP Jose Rijo in the 9th. Vance Law had a triple, single and a double as the Sox collected 13 hits off Guidry, Bob Shirley and Rijo. 

LaMarr Hoyt managed just 1 strikeout, but did not walk any Yankees, inducing ground balls, 2 of which were nifty double plays. Roy Smalley was the most persistent Yankee hitter off Hoyt with 2 doubles and a solo homer driving in 2 runs. The Sox are now 3-5, the Yankees continued their up-and-down start to the season, their record standing at 5-5.
